The Marubozu: Signal or Noise?
A Marubozu is a single candle whose open and close sit at or very near its extremes, leaving almost no upper or lower wick.
What the candle shows
The absence of wicks means price traded in one direction from the first tick to the last. The body therefore records the full distance price moved during that session without any visible rejection at either end.
Three checks before treating it as conviction
First, confirm the wicks are negligible; any visible tail immediately reduces the pattern’s clarity. Second, compare the body length to the candles that precede it; only when the Marubozu dwarfs recent ranges does it stand out as meaningful. Third, read the candle as a statement of conviction rather than a forecast: the market expressed clear control for that period, nothing more.
Where traders commonly go wrong
Many focus on the close itself, expecting the same directional force to carry forward. The candle records only what already happened; it contains no information about where the next move will stop or reverse.
